updatedb.findutils command not found

updatedb.findutils: command not found

or when using sudo you get the following error message

sudo: updatedb.findutils: command not found

In Ubuntu updatedb.findutils is provided by locate package.

locate is:

updatedb generates an index of files and directories. GNU locate can be used to quickly query this index.

To fix this problem, we can install more using the command below.

sudo apt-get -y install locate

This command might take some time to finish depending on your machine internet connection.

You can also use apt command to install locate.

sudo apt -y install locate

Or if you have aptitude installed you can use the following command.

sudo aptitude install locate
