nvptx-none-ar command not found

Introduction

When you run more command in linux terminal / console, you get the following error message

nvptx-none-ar: command not found

or when using sudo you get the following error message

sudo: nvptx-none-ar: command not found

In Ubuntu nvptx-none-ar is provided by nvptx-tools package.

nvptx-tools is:

The tools consist of

nvptx-none-as: “assembler” for PTX.
nvptx-none-ld: “linker” for PTX. Additionally, the following symlinks are installed:
nvptx-none-ar: link to the GNU/Linux host system’s ar.
nvptx-none-ranlib: link to the GNU/Linux host system’s ranlib.

To fix this problem, we can install more using the command below.

sudo apt-get -y install nvptx-tools

This command might take some time to finish depending on your machine internet connection.

You can also use apt command to install nvptx-tools.

sudo apt -y install nvptx-tools

Or if you have aptitude installed you can use the following command.

sudo aptitude install nvptx-tools
