How To Fix videogen: command not found in Ubuntu / Debian / Kali Linux / Raspbian

In Ubuntu videogen is provided by videogen package.

videogen is:

Videogen is a small but nice utility to create modelines you can insert into your xorg.conf and fb.modes files.

Modeline is created by telling the program the resolution you want and your video hardware parameters (maximum video adapter bandwidth, maximum HCF and VCF of the monitor etc).

Note that for most modern installations, Xorg will handle its own modesetting automatically, and you don’t need videogen to generate any Modelines.

The tool ‘some_modes’ may help you to create some common modes fast.

To fix this problem, we can install more using the command below.

sudo apt-get -y install videogen

This command might take some time to finish depending on your machine internet connection.

You can also use apt command to install videogen.

sudo apt -y install videogen

Or if you have aptitude installed you can use the following command.

sudo aptitude install videogen
