gpgme-tool command not found

Introduction

When you run more command in linux terminal / console, you get the following error message

gpgme-tool: command not found

or when using sudo you get the following error message

sudo: gpgme-tool: command not found

In Ubuntu gpgme-tool is provided by libgpgme-dev package.

libgpgme-dev is:

GPGME is a wrapper library which provides a C API to access some of the GnuPG functions, such as encrypt, decrypt, sign, verify, …

This package contains the headers and other files needed to compile against this library.

To fix this problem, we can install more using the command below.

sudo apt-get -y install libgpgme-dev

This command might take some time to finish depending on your machine internet connection.

You can also use apt command to install libgpgme-dev.

sudo apt -y install libgpgme-dev

Or if you have aptitude installed you can use the following command.

sudo aptitude install libgpgme-dev
