dpkg-architecture command not found

dpkg-architecture: command not found

or when using sudo you get the following error message

sudo: dpkg-architecture: command not found

In Ubuntu dpkg-architecture is provided by dpkg-dev package.

dpkg-dev is:

This package provides the development tools (including dpkg-source) required to unpack, build and upload Debian source packages.

Most Debian source packages will require additional tools to build; for example, most packages need make and the C compiler gcc.

To fix this problem, we can install more using the command below.

sudo apt-get -y install dpkg-dev

This command might take some time to finish depending on your machine internet connection.

You can also use apt command to install dpkg-dev.

sudo apt -y install dpkg-dev

Or if you have aptitude installed you can use the following command.

sudo aptitude install dpkg-dev
